Eternal Summer 2015

Au Revoir Summer!

Thanks for everything you brought us. Good luck in southern latitudes and I hope you miss us so much that you come next year a little earlier full of life and beautiful energy.
As a South American girl living in New York you know how much I miss you when you are not around. However, I must admit that I have developed a strange love affair with your colleague, Mr. Winter. But don't get jealous, you are still my one and only!

Love you always,

G

New Year's Resolutions

Every December 31st just before the clock hits 12 o'clock I panic thinking about my New Year's resolutions. Very often I've found myself breaking self-promises and quite honest I'm one of those persons that give up easily if the aforementioned pledge requires a great deal of sacrifice, e.g: having to quit wine (yeah right!), carbs, and every thing that doesn't belong to the plant kingdom in order to get a six pack. After promising myself for many years a ripped abdominal area a lá Brad Pitt in The Fight Club and only getting a cute flabby belly a lá Lena Dunham in Girls, I just gave up on unrealistic goals and now I stick to the good old promise-as-you-go type of deal.

This past year however, I realized that I spend too much time dealing with garments i.e. organizing my closet, taking items to the cleaners, doing laundry, folding clothes, removing cat hairs from my sweaters, and all the other activities that revolve around body containers a.k.a. clothes; and I've come up with a promise that I might be able to keep due to its simplicity and lack of sacrifice: I will recycle, reuse, and restore what I already own and I will not buy any unnecessary apparel for at least three months starting January 1st, 2014 (side effects might include nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, constipation, insomnia, skin rash….I'm kidding no i'm not. I very recently saw a documentary about how the USA is  addicted to prescription drugs and now I'm all into side effects. Notice also how easily I get side-tracked).

My first DIY project of the year is this simple white tank with an illustration from  Erika for Deletereo (I love you mon cherie!). Who knew that a color printer, transfer paper and a couple of plastic emeralds could save a plain tank top from the inevitable destiny of becoming sweaty gym wear?

Let's hope that this resolution doesn't end up in the bucket of broken promises. In there I can find classics like: I'm never bitting my nails again (hands or feet), I'm never putting my used gum behind my ear for future use after I'm done eating, I will floss my teeth more often, I promise to stop ringing all the bells when I'm trying to gain access to a building, and my favorite: I promise to limit my wine consumption to once per month……right.

Besos! and what were your New Year's lies resolutions?

The Super Hero inside of You

Lately I've been all about therapists, yogis, yoginis (this particular word is not recognized by Wikipedia.  Is the plural form of a yogini (female master practitioner of yoga -clearly not me-) one of those funny English words like radii, fungi, or foci? Or is it spelled the same in both singular and plural form? Accept my apologies for the level of ignorance that I've reached; several weeks of non-blogging had clearly affected my second language learning process), clairvoyants, help groups, and every possible human and non-human (I've been holding bi-weekly therapy sessions with my cats :)) form of mental and/ or spiritual help I can get my hands onto. I've enjoyed most of my encounters (with the exception of a certain fortune teller that insisted -against my will- to read my palm only to tell me horrible things about my chakras -"bitch! what's wrong with my chakras? we've lived in harmony for the past thirty-something years! why don't you go and get your chakras check first!") as I believe that these people had entered my life for a very specific reason. I've learned things from all of them (and hopefully they have learned something from me as well) specially to understand how powerful we all can be, how important is to learn to read our internal compass and specially how obscenely (I really wanted to use the F word here, but sometimes my mom reads this crap and even though she doesn't understand English I'm sure my brother already went thru the bad words with her) expensive one hour of therapy costs in NYC. God bless the health system of the USA, but we'll leave that discussion for another time.

Until next time, and many thanks and kisses to those of you who kept asking me: "Que pasa con la guayaba? I haven't seen you in weeks! I miss you" You are my inspiration.

Happy Friday Quimbara Quimbara!

Celia Cruz, the one and only. If you were born south of the hemisphere chances are that you grew up listening to Celia, El Gran Combo, La Fania, Tito, Joe, etc. These songs are part of our internal hard drive. If only every lesson thought in school was in a form of a salsa song Colombia would be a land of geniuses!

Last weekend CoCo's parents came to visit her, and that such event inspired us to have a mini welcome parents-welcome-nice-weather party at CoCo's backyard; because sometimes all you need is chips, salsa, wine an all-white-outfit and Celia to turn your life into a Carnaval.

Happy Friday!

Real Nice Thing in Life #7

And the countdown continues....
I came across the most beautiful song while exploring different "stations" on my Pandora. It's called Thanks for the Memory. This particular version was sang by Frank Sinatra. It reminded me of the all the beautiful people that have touched my life one way or the other and that no longer are next to me.
Merci Beaucoup!

So, thanks for the memory
And strictly entre-nous, darling how are you?
And how are all the little dreams that never did come true?
Aw'flly glad I met you, cheerio and toddle-oo

Real Nice Thing in Life #7: The beautiful moments that will live in my brain forever.

And in other news from the world of Stupidity here's what I wore the day after a major storm while drinking wine with CoCo and beautiful MaFer. Talking about great memories.....

And thanks for the memory
of sunburns at the shore, nights in Singapore
You might have been a headache but you never were a bore (oh yeah!)
So thank you so much
