Winter (hmmm)

This winter has been the most atypical winter that I've experienced in NYC. I'm not sure if I should get happy or sad. However, being able to enjoy the outdoors without worrying about how on any given moment your ears are going to fall off your head, it's always a plus.
And so I leave you with more on Karl...

Rebel with a cause

Along with free coffee, free tea, and nice co-workers, my 9 to 5 also offers Summer Fridays (half day off) throughout the year. So I usually spend my Friday's afternoons doing fun things like organizing my closet, doing laundry, petting the cats until the point where they're starting to loose their hair and unpacking my bag from last week's trip to Alabama. I also have time to dress up and play rebel with my new Karl Lagerfeld vest which I got yesterday via brown truck.  Enjoy your weekend!

Click Click!

I'm lucky enough to work one block away from B&H...that wonderful 4 stories store where you can find every possible item for photography and video, and not being able to resist the temptation of possible nicer pictures I went in and had a 45 minutes conversation with a lovely sales person which talked me into a new lens. Say cheese!!

Never say I don't make you laugh!

Guess where I've been spending my nights and days lately? Paris? Rome? Bogota? Athens?
nah, overrated.....I've been enjoying the beautiful cities of Birmingham, Alabama and Meridian, Mississippi!! (yeaaah!! no ironic tone, I swear).
Anyway, didn't want to keep out of your radars for too long, so while I was filling up my time sheet for work, watching American Idol, eating my room service dinner, browsing through facebook, and archiving old stuff in my computer (multitasking? nah), I found these very funny videos circa 2009 of my audition to HGTV Design Star. No, I never made it too far (hmmm I wonder why? was it my hardly noticeable accent? my lack of concentration? or my inability to say 3 sentences correctly? judge for yourselves after watching these videos), but I laughed so much it was worth it.

Gloria's Design Star Take IV
And then a miracle happen....I was able to complete the whole thing without any apparent mistakes, although I can tell from my face that I am about to explode out of laughter in any given second. Enjoy, don't laugh so much if you are watching this in your office, and never blame me for not making you laugh!

La Chapulina Colorada

Not feeling too inspired to write or take many pictures today. My energy level is a bit low after spending most of my day in bed eating Chinese food and watching pay per view movies. I do not recommend sleeping more than 8 hours straight, specially during the day. I can already foresee a sleepless night.
Lazy Sundays remind me of my favorite superhero of all times: El Chapulin Colorado. I remember how I used to spend hours watching  this show. I always wanted to become tiny like an ant with one of the pastillas de chiquitolina (some sort of pills that made you super small) that the main character used to take to spy on his enemies.
I miss you Chapulin, hope you like my heart sweater, I can only think about you every time I wear it.

Oh, ¿y ahora quien podrá defendernos?
("Oh, and now... who could defend us?")
Más ágil que una tortuga.
Más fuerte que un ratón.
Más noble que una lechuga.
Su escudo es un corazón.
("More agile than a turtle. / Stronger than a mouse /
Nobler than a lettuce / His emblem is a heart.")

The grass is indeed greener in Cartagena

While browsing through the pages of a Veranda magazine, I found these great pictures of a "casa grande" in Cartagena, Colombia. I just love the way the architect (Alberto Burckhardt) managed to preserve the historic structure of a 250 years old house while still creating a modern & minimalistic retreat.

Mental note: add Cartagena to the places I would like to visit this year list.

Editor's note: I love hammocks, they are beautiful & simple. Yes my back hurts if I use them for long, but don't we all deserve a bright soft hammock? Damn office chairs, damn you to hell!

Hey you! living in the North Hemisphere (more specifically in the North East area of the US), did you find yourself crying after seeing these pictures? I want you to know that you are not alone, I feel your pain, specially today when the wind had no mercy and froze us to death.
Oh Cartagena, why are you doing this to us?

...the grass is definitely greener on the other side.

'Cause I'm a Gypsy are you coming with me....

Yes I stole this line from Shakira (I love you girl), but I couldn't help it after seeing these pictures. I bought this shirt while on a trip to Houston, TX. I was with my family in Urban Outfitters helping my 14 year old niece pick out some clothing (good luck with that) and I fell in love with this shirt. I also got the turban the same day. I've always had a fascination with gypsies. I remember only dressing as a gypsy for halloween when I was a little girl. And now that I'm a grown up (or at least I stop growing vertically to only grow horizontally) I still have the inclination to wear a turban every so often, a long skirt, to tell some one's luck, not to settle anywhere for a long period of time or to steal your clothes if they happen to fit me.

Dear cat, thanks for being next to me for the past 10 years. You know I've been your most loyal servant, so please don't escape so that we can love each other for many more years.

Bean the Dog

Please don't tell my cats I'm posting this video about a dog, but this four legged creature has got to be the cutest thing I've seen lately. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. This video is a great day starter :)

When everything else fails part dos........

My beloved balloon skort (really? I found out today there's a a word for  the offspring of a skirt and a short) has been declared persona non grata in my office due to lack of the required length. I still think it looks beautiful, what do you think? I'll have to rethink those casual Friday outfits I used to wear.

Sombrerito, vintage from when I was working in the city.....I love you city, and sombrerito :)

When everything else fails.....

Just because I love fashion, architecture, and everything in between and just because I'm writing these posts doesn't necessarily mean that I always get it right (actually now that i think about it, I rarely get it right, I just enjoy my mistakes and have fun with them). Anyway, today was one of those days that nothing fitted, the hair was flat like a pizza, the cats kept meowing for food and I was hungry. But this blogging thing is too much fun to abandon for cereal and milk. So, when everything else fails get your high waisted, balloon skirt out of the closet and have fun with it!
Why does high waisted skirts work for moi? because they hide that layer of fat on your stomach that not even crossfit training 5 times a week can melt. As for the bandeau top? go back to the title of this post and concentrate on the skirt.
Let's just don't forget to have fun while playing dress up,
throw on your torero jacket (compliments of my uncle's closet)
and make sure to make your photographer laugh with a "torero pose"
(and please don't support bullfighting.....people have fun, bulls don't)
Thank God for Marc Jacobs shoes...even with a PMS attitude these shoes still make me smile :)
and for a more dramatic effect....do the robot dance

Message from mars

Dear Earthlings,

Thanks for sharing these super cool pictures of your cities with us. It's very refreshing to find out how some of you living in concrete jungles understand that having a riotous behavior can become an expression of art and can bring smiles to others (including us).

Love,

The Martians
